It is a standalone novel that combines a classic enemies-to-lovers trope with forced proximity in a tropical setting. The story revolves around Olive Torres, the unlucky twin sister, and Ethan Thomas, the best man at her sister’s wedding to Ethan’s brother. At the wedding reception, Olive is the maid of honor and expects disaster, as she is known for her bad luck, while her sister Ami is incredibly lucky. A celebratory seafood buffet causes food poisoning for every single guest except for Olive and Ethan, who avoided the dish. Since Ami’s non-refundable honeymoon—a luxurious all-expenses-paid trip to Maui—cannot be canceled or transferred, the bride suggests that Olive take her place with Ethan. Reluctantly, and mostly due to financial necessity (Ethan gets the suite, Olive gets the activities), the two agree to fly to Hawaii and pretend to be a happily married couple to avoid any issues with the resort.
