The story opens in the past to reveal the history of Evan Strangward, an orphan who discovers he is a powerful “stormcaster” with a magemark that allows him to control the wind, waves, and weather. The book brings together characters from the first two novels—including Ash, Jenna, Hal, and Breon—as they all realize they must unite the warring Seven Realms to survive the Empress’s “bloodsworn” army.
