Second book in the Shattered Realms series. While it is a sequel to Flamecaster, the timeline largely runs parallel to the first book, focusing on a new set of characters on the opposite side of the war. The novel shifts focus to the Kingdom of the Fells and its ongoing conflict with Arden.  Alyssa ana’Raisa (Lyss): The “warrior princess” and reluctant heir to the Gray Wolf throne. Preferring the battlefield to the court, she leads an elite squad of soldiers known as the Gray Wolves.    Halston (Hal) Matelon: A principled captain in the Ardenine army and son of a noble who has fallen out of favor with the cruel King Gerard Montaigne. He is often sent on dangerous, “sacrificial” missions.    Breon de’Tarvos: A mysterious street musician with a “magemark” similar to Jenna’s from the first book. His music has the magical ability to reveal people’s inner truths.
