She has always identified as a lesbian and is the primary provider for her pregnant sister, Hattie, and their struggling father.  Her childhood friend Freddie moves back to town. As they reconnect, Ramona finds herself developing romantic feelings for him, which sparks an internal crisis about her identity and sexual orientation.  The book explores the idea that labels can be fluid and that being attracted to a man doesn’t necessarily erase Ramona’s past experiences or her place in the LGBTQ+ community.
