The Lightning Thief is a young adult fantasy novel and the first book in the five-book series Percy Jackson & the Olympians.

The story follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson, who discovers he is a demigod (half-human, half-Greek god) with ADHD and dyslexia, which are actually signs of his divine heritage. He is sent to Camp Half-Blood, a training ground for demigods, where he learns that Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen and he is the prime suspect. To prevent an all-out war among the gods, Percy, along with his friends Grover (a satyr) and Annabeth (a daughter of Athena), embarks on a quest across the United States to find the real thief and return the bolt by the summer solstice.
