The narrative centers on Brynn (also spelled Brin), a young woman raised among the exiled Alaha people, who have been condemned to live on tree-dwelling island platforms in the middle of the ocean following a brutal war. Brynn trains to become a member of the Alaha Guard and is finally permitted to visit the mainland for the annual trading market hosted by the Kenta—the enemy nation that banished her community. While at the market, a fragile peace treaty is shattered when Brynn crosses paths with a mysterious, dark-eyed Kenta soldier named Acker. Acker is actually a Kenta prince with the magical ability to manipulate metal. Instead of arresting her, he reveals staggering truths about Brynn’s real identity, uncovering a hidden lineage tied to long-lost light magic and deep political betrayals. Forced into an alliance, the two flee across the sea, navigating intense fated-mate bonds while trying to stay ahead of royal enemies.
