Second book in the Emily Wilde cozy fantasy series. Emily travels to the Alpine village of St. Liesl to find a door to the realm of her colleague and former rival, Wendell Bambleby. She hopes to help him reclaim his throne from his murderous stepmother, who has sent faerie assassins after him. The quest is tied to the decades-old disappearance of two other Cambridge scholars, Danielle de Grey and Bran Eichorn, who vanished while searching for the same nexus.  The “Hidden Folk” in the Alps are depicted as particularly vicious; assassins sent by the faerie queen can only be killed by drowning, leading to a series of high-tension encounters.
